Alegria is GAWAD KALASAG National Awardee 2022

29 November 2022 – The Municipality of Alegria receives Gawad Kalasag (GK) Seal 2022 National Award being recognized as “Fully Compliant” LGU in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

The Municipality of Alegria, Surigao del Norte thru the OIC Municipal Administrator Angelie A. Tugahan and MPDC Johny Sauro Natad, in behalf of the Municipal Mayor Rene G. Esma received a National Award on Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence for being “Fully Compliant” LGU with a rating of 2.1 in the Gawad Kalasag Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs) Category for CY 2022 during the 22nd Gawad Kalasag National Awarding held at Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City on November 29, 2022. The award was personally given by Undersecretary Raymundo B Ferrer, the Executive Director of NDRRMC and the Civil Defense Administrator.

Recently this year, the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) confers the Municipality of Alegria with the Gawad Kalasag Seal 2022 Award during the National Disaster Resilience Month culmination program held on July 29, 2022, at the Office of Civil Defense Caraga, Butuan City. Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator and Designated MDRRMO Johny Natad together with the Mayor’s representative Municipal Economic Enterprise and Development Officer Luniza Garrido received the GK Seal 2022 Award.

In 2021, the Municipality of Alegria received for the first time the GK Seal Award from Caraga RDRRMC during a virtual ceremony via Zoom amid COVID-19 situation.

The Gawad KALASAG (GK) Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance, being established in 1998, has served as the country’s recognition and award scheme for various stakeholders who promote and implement disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation (DRRM-CCA), and humanitarian assistance programs that protect and shield high risk communities against extreme hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities.

GK envisioned to serve as a performance assessment mechanism for all Local Government Units as implementer of the Local DRRM Councils and Local DRRM Office pursuant to Republic Act No. 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. (JSN)
