05 December 2023 │Alegria, Surigao del Norte – In a vehement condemnation of the reprehensible bombing incident at the Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus in Marawi City on December 3, 2023, the Municipal Government of Alegria, Surigao del Norte expresses its deepest condolences to the victims and their families affected by the tragic event.

According to official news, the bombing, which occurred during a Mass on Sunday morning, December 3, 2023 at the MSU gym, resulted in the loss of four lives, with at least 50 others sustaining injuries. The Municipal Mayor, Rene G. Esma, who was once a student of MSU Marawi, strongly condemned the act of violence, emphasizing the need for solidarity and resilience in the face of such atrocities.

Mayor Rene G. Esma, with a profound sense of responsibility towards the students from Alegria, immediately organized a rescue mission to bring back the Alegrianhon students studying at MSU Marawi. More than 16 students from Alegria, Surigao del Norte, and some from neighboring town Kitcharao were successfully fetched by Mayor Rene and his team, utilizing both his personal car and the Municipal Government’s Toyota van.

Expressing his concern for the well-being of the students, Mayor Rene personally ensured that they were safely transported back to Alegria. The Mayor’s swift and hands-on approach in rescuing the students reflects his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Alegrianhon community, particularly those pursuing education in other parts of the country.

“I condemn in the strongest terms the senseless bombing that occurred in MSU Marawi. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. It is a somber day for our nation, and we stand united against any form of terrorism,” Mayor Rene G. Esma stated during a special meeting with the Department Heads prior to the mission trip to MSU.

Meanwhile, Municipal Vice Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr., who himself is a graduate of MSU Marawi, joined Mayor Rene in condemning the act of terrorism. Vice Mayor Dominador expressed his solidarity with the MSU community and emphasized the need for collective efforts to combat terrorism and promote peace in the region.

The Municipal Government of Alegria, Surigao del Norte, stands resolute in denouncing acts of violence and terrorism, calling for a united front against those who seek to disrupt the peace and stability of the nation.
