BARANGAY BUDLINGIN

Budlingin was officially recognized as the barangay under the declaration of Republic Act 3580 in April 12, 1971. The movement of civilization gradually approached the call of social evaluation was responsible for the change of its virginal glory. Transient people looking for greener pasture occupied the place. They were posted the landmark for the naming of the place.

A certain adventurer from Cebu reached the place. He meets a kaingero at an area (which is now the barangay site) in his kaingin activity. The stranger Cebuano asked the first native Boholano about the name of the place and the Boholano native could not answer because there was not yet specific name of the place. What that Boholano native insisted for was to call it “Buwod nga Lingin”. The stranger Cebuano asked other native people and he met the same suggestion. A bothered stranger Cebuano failed to understand but in his way towards the beautiful place, he observed the surrounding is bounded by the fascinating and enclosed hills. So what he did was he shortens the trinomial nomenclature to monomial name “Buod nga Lingin” calling it as “BUDLINGIN”, where the place got its name.

There were adventurous people who came to this place like the Boholanos, Leyteños and Cebuanos. But before they occupied the place it was revealed that the neighboring hunter Surigueño natives were already exist since the place was their hunting ground where they called “Pungawon” which means “the habitat of the eagle”.

Accordingly, the Mamanwas and Manobo were also first inhabited this so-called “mystical land of beauty”, they called this place as “Sinao-Sinao”, while the Manobos called it “Kaabitan”. These were the binomial names gathered from the primitive people inhabited in the place few years ago.

In the eastern part of the place, a wall likes portion of more or less 50 hectares citadel or fortress with fine limestone with an entrance as a gateway. The panoramic view resembles the famous lost city of Troy in Athens where we find the facts from the golden novels of those great European writers and scholars. As a result, some observant barangay folks described the place as the “lost city of Troy in Alegria”, the sleeping wonder and treasure.

The wonderful waterfall is located at the northern part. Accordingly, this waterfall got name in Spanish word “Lu Mundo” water falls where you can be enchanted with its coolness and showers resembles a fairy touch upon your lips.

The most distinctive mark of the place is during full moon at twilight time, there is no other half-spherical mountain hill where the moon rises to receive the light of the silver dusk of setting sun. You can be surely guided to the land of fairy tales and waterfalls of lover dreams.
