Alegria receives Gawad Kalasag Seal 2022 Award

29 July 2022 – The Municipality of Alegria receives Gawad Kalasag (GK) Seal 2022 Award being recognized as “Fully Compliant” LGU in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

The Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) confers the Municipality of Alegria with the Gawad Kalasag Seal 2022 Award during the National Disaster Resilience Month culmination program held on July 29, 2022, at the Office of Civil Defense Caraga, Butuan City. The Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator and Designated MDRRMO Johny Natad together with the Mayor’s representative Municipal Economic Enterprise and Development Officer Luniza Garrido received the GK Seal 2022 Award.

In a flag-raising ceremony, August 1, 2022, Mayor Rene G. Esma expressed his gratefulness to all members of the Alegria Municipal DRRM Council during the hand-over of GK Seal 2022 Award.

“We congratulate and thank all members of the Alegria MDRRMC for being recognized as Fully Compliant LGU. We hope that this is not only the award that we will be receiving in the future, but more awards of recognition especially the SGLG”, Mayor Rene said during the flag-raising ceremonies and receiving the GK Seal 2022 Plaque.

Last year, the Municipality of Alegria received for the first time the GK Seal Award from Caraga RDRRMC.

Established in 1998, the Gawad KALASAG (GK) Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance has served as the country’s recognition and award scheme for various stakeholders who promote and implement disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation (DRRM-CCA), and humanitarian assistance programs that protect and shield high risk communities against extreme hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities.

GK envisioned to serve as a performance assessment mechanism for all Local Government Units as implementor of the Local DRRM Councils and Local DRRM Office pursuant to Republic Act No. 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. (JSN)
